    Technical questions, clear answers

    What does “proactive monitoring” mean exactly?

    Proactive means that we do not react until you report an outage to us. Our automated systems constantly monitor hundreds of parameters on your servers (e.g. CPU utilization, free disk space, status of services, hardware sensors). If a predefined threshold is exceeded (e.g. “hard drive 90% full”), a ticket is automatically created for one of our technicians. This can often fix the problem before it even becomes noticeable to your users.

    How often should server updates be installed?

    Security-critical updates (“patches”) should be installed as soon as possible after they are released by the manufacturer, often within days. Major function updates or service packs are usually installed on a monthly or quarterly basis in a planned maintenance window (e.g. on weekends) to ensure compatibility and not to disrupt operations.
